Letter to My Teenage Self

A Letter to My Teenage Self

Welcome to the blog today! I am so glad you are here! Today I am writing a letter to my teenage self. And I feel this is how most teen girls felt at some point if not the whole time of ‘being a teen’. So here are some things I would say to a 16 year old me.

First, I want to start out and share that I am now 42 years old. Married and am a mom to boys. But I do help out with teen girls at my church. And I have some young women that I am now friends with that are now beyond their teen years. All of this to say that I am aware of things that these girls face today, as well as knowing what my teen self had to deal with.

Dear 16 year old Sarah,

First of all, I want you to know that you are enough. You don’t have to act like someone you are not to get the attention of people you don’t need in your life. You are a cool kid and people would love to really know your heart.

Second, take time to do things that will make you a better version of yourself. Spend more time with your grandparents, learn from them. Spend more time with your family. Nourish those relationships. Study. Spend time on your art, like real time.

Third, realize that money doesn’t make you who you are. Just because you didn’t grow up in a home that was wealthy, doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve great things. You need only to work at it!

There WILL be a man that you meet that is the ONE! He is better than all of those losers that you allow yourself to date. Stop stooping so low. There is a perfect man, made just for you, out there and believe it or not, he is getting ready to graduate college. You will find him in the funniest way. But you WILL find him. And you will be glad you waited. Sad that you made so many mistakes but he will more than make up for them.

God is amazing. He truly will protect you from dumb things you will do in the future. He has an amazing future for you. You will get married to the most perfect man, have the most amazing babies, and have a truly blessed life. Wait for it!

Before I end this, precious girl, I want you to know how amazing you are. You are loved. You are beautiful. Look forward, don’t look back.

Have an amazing life, sweet one.

Love, Your 42 year old self

What would you say to your teenage self?

Let me know in the comments! I could add a few funny things in here like, don’t eat at the sub shop in town because you will get food poisoning… lol Let me know, what would you add?
