On This Nest Living, we are going to be discussing how to elevate any outfit with accessories you probably already own. It’s true! You probably just haven’t realized how important they could be!
Welcome back, friends! For years now, I have been an accessories girl. AND a pretty basic dresser. BUT the thing that can take an outfit from basic to “wow, you look pretty” are accessories. So today we are discussing how to elevate any outfit with accessories you probably already own.
Yep, those things in your jewelry box, drawers, or closet that you may hardly ever touch, can make you look like you tried a lot harder on your outfit than you maybe actually did. Today, I am going to encourage you to get some of those things back out and try to wear them again.
SO how would you elevate an outfit? Keep reading!
By definition accessories are articles of dress, such as gloves, earrings, or a scarf, that adds completeness, convenience, attractiveness, etc to one’s basic outfit.
Accessories could be any of the following, and more:
- hair barrette, head band, or tie
- scarf (either in your hair, around your neck, or on your wrist or handbag)
- hand bag, bag, back pack
- shoes, or boots
- broach, or pin on clothing
- makeup (such as a red lip or winged eyeliner)
I have not spent an extensive amount of money on ANY of my clothing or accessories. I invested recently in my super small hoops which are 18K gold. But they were less than $20. I also bought my leather pair of Ralph Lauren shoes for less than $20 on Ebay. You can dress well, and dress without spending a fortune… your accessories are probably some you have already.
Your favorite purse can be an accessory that changes the look of your outfit. If I carry this pink (faux) leather purse, my outfit will look more put together than if I carry my blue and white canvas bag.
Jewelry can also dress up a basic outfit. TOO MUCH though can take it too far and make you look “too busy”. Minimal jewelry is beautiful. The smaller the jewelry, the more “pretty” it looks. The chunkier the jewelry, the more fun and eye catching it will be.
For earrings, you don’t have to go all crazy to have them make a statement. Simple can be making a statement as well.
Lipstick and simple jewelry… even the gold “button” on the sleeve takes a basic outfit to an outfit that looks like you took some time to put together.
This pin, or broach, was something I got from my grandmother and I thing it instantly dresses up an outfit. I wore it on my plaid blazer last week, and it belonged on that pocket.
Lastly, you can make even a plain t-shirt look a little more put together if you add simple jewelry.
I hope today you saw how to elevate any outfit with accessories you probably already own. Like I said, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get some basic, pretty accessories to add to your arsenal. And there might already be things that you’ve had for years that you just never used (like I did with my grandmothers broach!).
