How I Keep Laundry from Driving Me Crazy

Laundry is something that most mama’s DO NOT enjoy in the least. So in the 18 years of having children, how have I not let laundry drive me crazy? Keep Reading!

How do I keep laundry from driving me crazy?

Let me start off by telling you, there is no magic formula…. I wish there were. But I will tell you, I don’t have a fancy laundry room. I don’t even have much room in my laundry room to make fancy set-ups or anything.

So how do I not let laundry for 6 people drive me crazy?

First, we rewear our clothes. Jeans and short we will rewear more than shirts. Usually shirts we don’t rewear UNLESS it’s only worn for a part of the day or for a few hours. Sometimes if we wear a sweater or sweatshirt OVER the top of another shirt, we will rewear those as well.

This helps clothes last longer. They won’t fade as fast. And it saves on water and laundry detergent! Win, win, win!

Second, we clean out our drawers and closets at LEAST once a year, if not more. This helps keep a bunch of clothes in the rotation AND keeps from kids throwing perfectly good clean clothes into the wash just because they don’t want them or can’t wear them anymore… yes, this has happened!

This also helps make sure they kids bring me their dirty clothes often, because they don’t have a million things to choose from.

Third, and most importantly around our house, I do laundry almost daily. I know that sounds like a horrible plan. BUT if I can throw a load of laundry in the wash in the evening and throw it in the dryer just before bed or first thing in the morning, then I only have ONE load to fold. ONE. As opposed to doing multiple loads on the weekend. That just straight up sounds like torture.

One load is totally manageable. And during the week, I might have 5-6 loads of laundry. Sometimes more if we have dirty yard work, or on weeks we wash bedding. But usually it is super easy.

I’m Lazy

Over the years, I’ve come to realize and embrace my laziness. This has helped me to work smarter and not harder, especially when it comes to chores I do not love! So if we can rewear some clothing, we make sure we only have things in our closets that we absolutely love and wear, and that I keep a load washed daily, I don’t really have to do very much work! A little here and an little there is easy peasy!
